Pre-booking system for West Wittering Beach goes down - with visitors told they are risk of being turned away

Visitors may be turned away from a popular beach

Problems with the pre-book parking system for one of the south coast’s most popular beaches has left visitors being advised they can still travel and visit - but risk being turned away.

The privately-owned West Wittering Beach operates a pre booking system for its car parking to keep its numbers under control which has seen it sell out over the bank holiday weekend.

But, the booking system is now down meaning those intending to visit for the rest of the half term week are unable to secure their space.

In a statement West Wittering Beach said: “Our booking system is still down. We are advising visitors coming from Tuesday onwards to pay on arrival at the beach instead.

“Please note this is at your own risk. If the beach reaches full capacity when you arrive, we cannot guarantee entry and accept no responsibility for this.

“If you have already pre-booked, your booking remains valid and you will still be able to gain access to the beach.”

West Wittering is popular with visitors from all over the South Coast thanks to its large stretches of sand and facilities on site.

Visitors can still go to West Wittering when it is fully booked if they walk or use public transport, with a new ferry service also operating from Hayling Island.
