All second-year and third-year scholars were controversially released, despite many having featured in the Leasing.com Trophy during that 2020-21 season.
In addition, two second-year scholars declined deals to remain at Fratton Park, in another damning statement over the effectiveness of the Academy.
The process was overseen by interim head of football operations Roberto Gagliardi, with an unhappy Liam Daish, lead professional development phase coach, insisting he and other Academy staff were never consulted.

Pompey boss Danny Cowley pulled the offer of a new deal in June 2021, leaving the third-year scholar without a club having finished the season around the first-team. He had featured twice in the Leasing.com Trophy in that 2020-21 campaign, with a debut against West Ham Under-21s in November 2020. After trials at Burnley, Wycombe and Eastleigh in the summer of 2021, he linked up with Dorchester Town in September 2021, bagging 23 goals in 80 appearances over a two-year stay. Last summer he moved to AFC Totton, before switching to Gosport in February 2024 for the remainder of the Southern League Premier South season. Now aged 22, the striker has agreed to remain at Privett Park for next season following their agonising play-off defeat. | Nigel Keene/ProSportsImagesPhoto: Nigel Keene/ProSportsImages

Along with Seok Jae Lee, he subsequently turned down a Blues extension in favour of pursuing an alternative route in the summer of 2021.
The winger spent a week-long trial at Southampton, before joining Robbie Blake’s Rocks in September 2021 after impressing in training, before later linking up with Gosport.
However, it has been at AFC Portchester where he has truly flourished, mainly operating in a central role, and has plundered 40 goals in 90 appearances over the last two seasons.
