The News understands, however, the Scottish under-21 international is not someone on the club’s transfer radar at present as they continue their recruitment work.

Leonard’s name first surfaced in February in terms of reported Pompey interest, after an impressive season on loan at Northampton in League One.

The 22-year-old bagged five goals and chipped in with six assists, as the Cobblers had a successful season finishing 14th.

Leonard has a year to go on his existing deal at the Amex Stadium, though the Seagulls have an option to extend his stay for another 12 months.

A host of clubs are reported to be keen on central midfielder, who is said to be valued at £300,000 by his Premier League side

Birmingham, Oxford and Wrexham are the latest teams to be mentioned by transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, with Pompey’s name resurfacing in other reports.

Cardiff, Sheffield United, Preston and Swansea are among the swathe of names linked with Leonard across the summer.

Pompey are not one of those keen on the former Hearts youngster, however, as they gear up some busy transfer activity.

The Blues are looking at new central midfield options, but the view from the club’s football operation is Leonard isn’t quite ready for the step up to Championship level.

Another season in League One for John Mousinho’s side could have changed the picture, allowing the Glasgow-born talent another campaign to develop.

Pompey will be looking elsewhere in the middle of the park after winning the title, with securing skipper Marlon Pack’s future an immediate priority.

The Buckland boy is closing in on extending his two-year stay at Fratton Park, though there is no development over Joe Morrell’s situation after the club decided not to take up a 12-month option to keep the Wales international’s future.

The News understands Pompey are keen on exploring another loan deal for Chelsea’s Tino Anjorin and will look at the possibility of a Fratton return for Manchester City’s Alex Robertson.
