Police officers are working Havant Borough Council to enforce a court order to remove a traveller encampment which has appeared on a sports field.

Travellers have been spotted on the playing fields adjacent to Hooks Lane, Havant and footage captured by DJI Fly shows roughly half a dozen caravans on the site - adjacent to Havant Rugby Football Club.

A spokesperson for Havant Borough Council said: “Havant Borough Council officers along with the police have made contact with the encampment at Hooks Farm Way. Yesterday, Portsmouth Magistrates Court served an order for removal on the site of the encampment. Those occupying the site have been duly informed. Havant Borough Council officers and partners including Hampshire and Isle of White Constabulary will continue to follow due process for removal.”

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has been contacted for further information. Earlier this month, travellers staying in the car park at Fareham Leisure Centre were issued with a Section 77 letter by Fareham Borough Council - and reportedly left the site “clean and tidy”
