People lined the streets of Portsmouth to welcome the King and Queen to D-Day 80 and were treated to a stunning flyover.

While a lot of the action happened on the inside of the D-Day 80 event on Wednesday, June 5, people outside of the Southsea Common stage were treated to a number of highlights. People crowded across Clarence Esplanade hoping for a sight of King Charles and Queen Camilla as they arrived, and they were not disappointed.

As well as receiving a wave as King Charles III passed by there was a stunning flyover as they waited. Hundreds were outside the event keen to soak up the atmosphere and be as close as possible to the commemorations. Some even felt they got a better view of the King as he drove by metres away. John Swain from Barnsley said: “We probably had a better view of the King than some of the people in the event.”
