Two fundraising concerts are set to take place to raise money for the new Royal Marines Museum being planned at Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard.

A two night series of concerts, featuring the Royal Marines Commando Display Team, is being staged on July 18 and 19 to support fundraising for a new Royal Marines Museum which it is hoped will open at the dockyard in Summer 2026.

Taking place between 7pm and 9pm, the concerts kick off with a stirring performance from the Military Wives Choir, before a change of pace sure to entertain younger visitors as the Royal Marines Commando Display team wow with their agility and skill. Following this, the second part of the evening unfolds with the grandeur of the Royal Marines Beating Retreat Performance.  All proceeds from the event are supporting the new £13.9m Royal Marines Experience Museum in Boathouse 6.

As previously reported by The News the National Museum of the Royal Navy has launched a search for innovative exhibition designers to join the team putting together the plans for the new museum at 1840’s Grade II* listed Boathouse No.6. The building is currently home to the popular Action Stations attraction as well as a cinema and Laser Quest.

But once converted it will be home to The Royal Marines Experience Museum, a permanent special exhibition gallery, a family-focused marines-themed Laser Quest and a dual-use public programming and conference facility. Many will also be hopeful that popular family attractions such as the climbing walls will also be included within the design.

The new museum will replace the one which was lost when the former Royal Marines Museum, based in Eastney was closed and sold off in 2017. Plans have been put forward to convert it into a hotel.

Matthew Sheldon, interim director general of the National Museum of the Royal Navy said “This promises to be a fabulous evening with the Royal Marines Band leading the programme in such a historic and evocative setting – we’ll literally be in the shadow of HMS Victory. It’s great to welcome the Band for an event raising money for something close both to their hearts and ours.”
