Man admits raping teenager in Portsmouth nightlife hotspot close to police station

A man has admitted raping a woman in a city centre nightlife hotspot close to the police station and law courts.

Kava Liliu, 24, of Sycamore Road, Derby, raped the 19-year-old woman in Winston Churchill Avenue around 2am on February 11 - sparking a police manhunt.

The predator has admitted the offence after previously being charged by police in February. He will be sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court on Thursday.

The incident, close to the city centre’s nightlife hotspot, led to police, including forensic officers, combing the area for clues with a crime scene set up. A 28-year-old man from Portsmouth was initially arrested on suspicion of rape before being released from the investigation.

A police spokesperson previously said: “Following extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances of what happened, Sebastine Liliu, 24, of no fixed address has been charged with rape. 

“A 28-year-old man from Portsmouth previously arrested on suspicion of rape as part of our enquiries has been released without charge and will face no further action."
