A lifeboat was launched after a kayaker’s wife grew concerned when her husband failed to show up at his planned destination.

The kayaker was planning on travelling between Lee-on-the-Solent and Calshot but his wife began getting worried when he was long overdue which prompted the launch of the Cowes RNLI lifeboat on Tuesday.

As a result coastguards put out a message to all vessels in the area to keep a look-out for the missing craft. Eventually reports of sightings came in and a launch located the kayaker off the Meon shore area of Hampshire. It was found that the man, who had left his mobile phone behind, was able to continue on his craft.
