The body reviews education settings from early learning environments all the way up to college, and annually they publish reports outlining what schools are doing well and what they need to improve on.
An education setting can be presented with one of four Ofsted ratings including outstanding, good, requires improvement and inadequate. If a school receives a rating of inadequate, it will be monitored closely by the government body to ensure that improvements are made and all of the monitoring visits should also be published.
Schools that receive a ‘requires improvement’ rating are also monitored by the body to ensure that action is taken to see positive results.

The report said: "Pupils at Beacon View enjoy coming to their school. They are proud of it and keen to explain why.
"Pupils and their families appreciate the significant improvements in behaviour. Pupils are clear of what leaders expect of them.
"Leaders have made significant improvements to the school, following a lengthy period of instability.
"Over time, pupils have not achieved as well as they could in English and mathematics. Leaders have now made sure that the curriculum content is clear and staff are well trained in teaching it and checking on pupils’ learning. However, because these are recent changes, pupils have not yet had time to be able to catch up with their learning."
