Gaffer for a Day, Tom Clark, aged 28 from Crookhorn, delivers his opinion on Pompey’s 2-0 defeat to Charlton...

How do you assess that Pompey performance?

Early on in the first half we pressed well and Ronan Curtis should have at least hit the target, but it was a poor shot.

We huffed and puffed, yet looked a completely different team to the previous two matches against Sunderland and Northampton.

There was no real product there. Ryan Williams and Curtis didn’t produce anything, while John Marquis didn’t get involved. At least Jordy Hiwula had a shot when he came on.

We had no cutting edge and I can’t remember any clear-cut opportunities. While all Craig MacGillivray had to do was pick the ball out of the net.

I gather you weren’t happy with the system change?

Charlton created two chances and scored, so, at end of the day, they deserved to win the game.

But I would put it down to Kenny Jackett changing the system at half-time.

After working so well, why suddenly change it at the interval? It was very strange in my opinion.

We were rubbish before with the 4-2-3-1, so it was changed to 4-4-2 and looked really good. Then we changed it again in the second half.

For me, that second-half display proved why we need to stick to 4-4-2. It’s the only way forward, so let’s keep it.

Thoughts on the referee Carl Boyeson?

He was shocking, poor to put it mildly. Not booking Darren Pratley was an unbelievable decision.

At the time I was screaming at the television. On second viewing, it’s a tight yellow/red card, but he didn’t take any action!

If he makes contact with Callum Johnson that’s a red. Instead it was minimal, so I would say he warranted a yellow. It clearly wasn’t a normal tackle, he lunged. And doesn’t get booked.

If that had been committed by a Pompey player then he would have been off – the referee seemed to pick on us.

What about those fouls given against Marcus Harness in the first half, he kept being pulled up for a little nudge.

Any players stand out for you?

Well, Curtis won the ball back a few times and worked hard, so caught my eye.

Let’s be honest, though, there was not much to go on.

My mum on that pitch would have had more end product than Williams. He doesn’t do anything, he infuriates me. He gets into good positions and the end product is garbage.

It’s not even on Saturday, it’s every game. He has the physical attributes to get into really good positions, but on the ball hasn’t got it.

John Marquis didn’t get involved, while Callum Johnson was at fault for at least one of Charlton’s two goals. His positioning was appalling.
