Portchester fire tackled near railway line

THE railway line at Portchester will function as normal after firefighters tackled a nearby fire.

A crew from Portchester Fire Station was called to Portsdown Road at 7.48am this morning after reports of smoke coming from the railway tracks.

The cause was identified as an unattended bonfire by a hedge next to the line.

The fire was quickly put out and the railway line was unaffected.
