POLICE have confirmed that the death of a man at a park in Fareham in a suspected dog attack is no longer being treated as suspicious.

Ian Symes, who was known as ‘Wiggy’ to friends and family, was pronounced dead at the recreation ground on Hillson Drive in Fareham after Police and South Central Ambulance Service were alerted to a concern for welfare call at 10.25am on Wednesday, August 10.

Officers have now announced that they have concluded their investigation

As part of their enquiries a 20 year-old man from Fareham was arrested on suspicion of being the owner/person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death.

Following the investigation he has been released without charge and will face no further action.

A dog was also secured and removed from the scene. The XL Bully was subsequently put down.

My Symes’ death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will now be prepared for the Coroner.

A shrine for Mr Symes sprang up at the park soon after his death with many leaving fond tributes to the popular dog-lover.

One said: ‘Remembering the fondest memories of growing up together. It won’t be the same round here with out you. Keep on strutting, lots of love.’

Another said: ‘Shine bright you beautiful human being. Fly high Wiggy. Always in my heart and never forgotten. All my love forever and a day.’

‘Wig, my brother from another mother, will miss you so much. Love you, fly high, keep the Stella chilled.’
