Fire fighters from Southsea station were called to the scene as there were initial concerns, later proved unfounded, that people were trapped in the car. They remained on the scene to keep it safe while colleagues in the police carried out their investigation.

An ambulance also attended the incident, but no one is believed to have been seriously hurt.
