Attempt murder probe: second man arrested

A SECOND man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was found seriously injured in Portsmouth at the weekend.

Hampshire police have now said a 23-year-old man from London has been arrested following the incident on Saturday.

A 20-year-old man, from Birmingham, was discovered with serious injuries shortly before midnight in Middle Street on Saturday.

He was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital by the South Central Ambulance Service after officers on the scene carried out ‘vital’ first aid.

A 21-year-old man from London who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on February 18, was later released with no further action to be taken.

A number of roads including Middle Street and Eldon Street and a car park near the University of Portsmouth were cordoned off.

Yesterday The News reported that two pub workers from the King Street Tavern jumped into action after an injured man knocked on the pub door just before midnight on Saturday evening.

Manager Mike Bailey said: ‘We sat him down and helped to try and stop the bleeding.’
