Review: Breakfast At Tiffany's at The Mayflower, Southampton
Despite Pixie Lott’s playing, rather well, the infamous Holly Golightly, this is not a musical.
Be aware that this show is based on the book and is much darker than the Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard movie version.

Hide AdStill want to go? If so you are in for a treat. If, like me, your only exposure to Pixie Lott has been bouncy pop music wafting through the doors of your children’s bedrooms then you may be in for a surprise. She can act – very well.
While the show hangs around Fred as a central character and voice of the piece, Holly is vital too. Matt Barber’s Fred is wonderful. His restraint brings a nuance to the character as he evokes sympathy at times and provokes anger at others.
Andrew Joshi impressed as the put-upon photographer.
The three songs Lott performs are almost entirely superfluous to the story. A sop for fans expecting to see her sing perhaps? She has a good voice but her acting is what counts here. A darkly delicious adaptation of Truman Capote’s wartime novella.
Until Saturday.
