Hide AdRussell, from Chichester who worked as a nurse in Portsmouth for a number of years, will be cycling more than 275 miles for the event this year.
He said: ‘For those who know me, this will be a huge challenge as I’m not the most athletic person.
‘I also underwent a hip replacement last September.
‘So not only do I have the challenge of the cycle ride itself but the uphill struggle of getting match fit.’
Russell has set up a fundraising page and has already raise £670.
He will be holding fundraising events throughout the year to boost donations.
